INSIDE THE ATELIER

Karoo Madonna Atelier is a gallery and working studio space in the heart of Somerset West, Cape Town, a long-held dream now brought to life. Created as both a personal sanctuary and a space to share creativity with others, the atelier is where I paint, experiment, teach, and connect. More than just a studio, it’s a living, breathing creative hub - where art is made, exhibited, and celebrated with the wider community.

A bit about me...

My work is a reflection of my deep connection to the rugged beauty of the Karoo and my personal journey as an artist.

For over 30 years, I've drawn inspiration from South Africa's vast, arid landscapes, capturing their stillness and strength in my Karoo Landscapes, Still lifes, and Karoo Madonna series.

Recently, my art has evolved, becoming more expressive and bold as I explore more contemporary themes.

LATEST NEWS

I’m honoured to be exhibiting Karoo Pietà at Christine X Art Gallery in Malta from 14–28 June 2025. This body of work is deeply personal, rooted in memory, landscape, and symbolism and brings together two places that have shaped me in different ways: the vast, contemplative Karoo in South Africa and the spiritual resonance of the Madonna in Malta.

The Karoo has always felt like a place of reflection for me - a space where absence and presence coexist. In this exhibition, I’ve drawn on its stillness and weight, weaving it together with the figure of the Madonna as a vessel for grief, resilience, and maternal love. It’s a reimagining of the Pietà that holds both personal loss and quiet strength.

Through this dialogue between land and spirit, I hope to offer something honest - an invitation to sit with sorrow, to witness beauty in its rawest form, and to find a kind of sanctuary within the work. Karoo Pietà is a tribute, a reckoning, and ultimately, a gesture of love.

Sustainable Art

Art doesn’t have to be expensive to be meaningful. Inspired by African artists and the spirit of creativity, I've launched a unique range of one-of-a-kind pieces painted on upcycled materials.
